Last week we answered “How Much Does Digital Marketing Cost?” and uncovered that there are a ton of questions about Digital Marketing, like “What is Digital Marketing anyway?” In this episode, we cover the most common questions around the sometimes nebulas term of Digital Marketing. We’ll answer what a digital marketing campaign is, what types of careers are in Digital Marketing and why it’s important to your future as a business owner!
The podcast covers these questions in a bit more detail but here are the basics of the answers.
The short version? Marketing done digitally. Although most professional digital marketers hate the term, you could call Digital marketing, online marketing or internet marketing. It includes many disciplines such as SEO, PPC and Social Media Marketing.
I saw this question in my research. Let me ask you, do you think we’ll be more “online” in the future or less online? If you think we’ll be more “digital” then yes, Digital Marketing is the future. If not then… no. Really, not sure why this question is getting asked so many times. (Yes, is the answer).
That being said there are still opportunities in traditional marketing. As the usage of those channels goes down your marketing can stand out. Postcards are a good example of this. Whereas advertising in newspapers won’t likely make a cycle back.
The overall “strategies” if you peel away the “digital” part of it, are the same. Copywriting and direct marketing techniques work well online and off. The “digital” part of it really applies to the tactics you use. Whether you choose SEO or a Facebook Campaign, those are your tactics or sub-strategies.
Some highlights of different digital marketing tactics we’ve covered.
A campaign is simply the execution of tasks on a strategic plan. So a digital marketing campaign would be the “road map” or set of tasks that get done in order to achieve the goal. King of like a S.M.A.R.T. goal.
Ultimately, digital marketing encompasses all of our episodes on the 4rd Marketing Podcast. All of these tactics covered serve the purpose to increase the “visibility” of your website or company. The goal then would be increased exposure leads to increased traffic leads to increased customers. That’s the point.
A ton. You could be a “digital marketer” or an SEO Architect. There are opportunities inside of Pay Per Click (PPC) and social media channels. If you love to write you could be a content creator or if you’re an idea person you could be a content manager. Designers are very much needed in Digital marketing as well.
